The Annual Parent Interview includes a variety of demographic information about the child and family, parental beliefs and attitudes, and their perceptions of the Educare program.  It was developed by the Educare Learning Network Evaluation Team and is constantly evolving to meet the needs of all Educare stakeholders (children, families, staff, researchers, funders).  It is currently available in English and Spanish (sites may translate it into other languages, as needed).

Overview Information 

Who:  Every parent who has signed consent for themselves and their child to participate in the evaluation will be interviewed in the Fall of each year that the child is enrolled in the Educare program.  New enrollees and families who were unable to be interviewed in the Fall can be interviewed throughout the year.

Timing of Assessment:  Fall

Assessor(s):  usually Family Support Staff

Special Instructions:  It is designed as an interview which means someone on the Educare or LEP staff sits down with the parent and asks them the questions in the interview.  Sites may have specific response plans for parents who screen positive for depression.

Sibling Supplement:  In addition to the complete survey, parents who have more than one child in Educare should complete a supplemental form to capture information about each sibling in the program.

Family Progress Measures

• Parents will employ basic safety measures in the home.

Child Health

• Children will receive proper nutrition. 
• Parents will advocate for their child’s health needs and ensure that the child receives necessary health and dental care, including preventative care. 

Child Language and Literacy

• Parents will effectively support their children’s language development. 
• Parents will read to children each day and age-appropriate books will be available in homes. 

Child Social-Emotional Development

• Parents will effectively support their children’s social and emotional development through appropriate discipline and responsive interactions. 
• Parents demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness in interactions with their children.

Child Overall Development

• Parents spend time with their children in activities that stimulate development. 
• Parents provide home environments and experiences that are supportive of their children’s development. 
• Parents demonstrate knowledge of child development and awareness of children’s developmental progress

Parent Development

• Parents demonstrate the ability to advocate for their child’s educational needs and are engaged in their child’s education. 
• Adult family members strengthen their relationships. 
• Parents make progress toward their educational, literacy, and employment goals. 
• Parents enhance their self-concept and emotional well being and experience less parenting stress.
