The Annual Parent Interview has been a mainstay of the Educare National Evaluation.  It was developed by the Educare Learning Network Evaluation Team and is constantly evolving to meet the needs of all Educare stakeholders (children, families, staff, researchers, funders).   The interview is used to collect data on a variety of child and family outcomes.   Impending changes in the Annual Parent Interview are communicated to LEPs during the months preceding the start of the school year.  

Getting Started:

• Although hard copies of the Annual Parent Interview are available, the interview is also online.  At the start of each school year, a link is provided by FPG.  Interviewers can use the online screens while conducting the interview or use them to enter data collected on the paper form. 

Prior to the Fall/Beginning of School Year:

• There are typically several optional sections to the Fall Parent Interview. LEPs have the option to decide if administering these sections is beneficial to their site plans and goals and will be provided with the opportunity to communicate their decision to include all, some, or none of the optional sections to the FPG staff.
• Family support staff typically administer the Annual Parent Interview.  However, this may vary by site.  Each site should develop a plan for scheduling interviews with primary caregivers during the Fall months.
• The Annual Parent Interview is available in both English and Spanish.  Educare staff should consider the caregiver’s primary language when determining who will conduct the interview.
• For sites with large populations of non-English/non-Spanish speaking parents (e.g., Vietnamese, Ho-Chunk), LEPs may consider translating the Annual Interview.  However, this is not a requirement.  
• First-time interviewers should become familiar with the interview and practice its administration prior to interviewing parents/caregivers.  
• Prior to accessing the online interview, the child(ren) must already have been added to the system and assigned a Child ID.  The Child ID is required to access their interview.
• Informed consent should be obtained from parents during the enrollment process. It is imperative to have consent before children are assessed or parents are interviewed.
• LEPs will receive password information from FPG prior to the interview going live.
