The Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA) and the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment for Infants & Toddlers (DECA IT) are designed to support early intervention efforts to reduce emotional and behavior concerns by assessing risks in the social development of very young children.  These instruments were selected because they represent a strengths-based approach to measuring social-emotional skills. 

Who: Every Educare child with parental consent for the National Evaluation

Assessor: Lead classroom teacher

Timing of Assessment:   Each Fall and Springthat the child is enrolled in the program

Child Progress Measures and Social-Emotional:

• Children will demonstrate competence in relating to other children and managing their behavior within a group setting
• Children will show competence in constructively expressing their emotions
• Children exposed to trauma will receive services
• Children with identified emotional or behavioral disturbances will show improvement
